Peter Mason

Peter Mason is a Senior Consultant at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, capital structuring, and private equity. He brings extensive experience from his roles as a partner and director of a leading South African private equity firm, general counsel of a major corporate and investment bank, and equity partner at a large South African law firm.

Peter has advised on major private equity transactions as both buyer and seller, including Rockwood Private Equity Fund I's disposals of investments in Tsebo, Safripol, Kwikspace, and EnviroServ, and its acquisitions of Global Roofing Solutions and Prominent Paints. He also led legal teams on Absa Bank's investigation into single stock futures underwriting losses and its disposal of its interest in Absa Capital Private Equity Fund I to HarbourVest and Coller Capital. His expertise spans debt structuring, private equity fund structuring, corporate restructuring, and general commercial legal work. He has served on boards of various industrial and manufacturing companies and regulated financial services firms, chairing audit, risk, and remuneration subcommittees.

Peter holds a BCom and an LL.B from the University of Natal, and a Diploma in Advanced Banking from the University of Johannesburg. He is an admitted attorney in South Africa.
