Nirvasha Singh

Nirvasha Singh is a Partner and a tax litigation specialist with over 20 years of cumulative tax experience, specialising in Tax Law with particular expertise in Employees' Tax (PAYE), mining tax, mining royalty tax, and carbon tax. She focuses on developing PAYE strategies and resolving all tax‑related disputes with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), and has been instrumentally involved in major tax litigation matters for clients in the oil and gas and mining sectors.

She also advises on carbon tax‑related matters, including transaction‑specific carbon tax advice and compliance support. She provides proactive tax opinions and memoranda, conducts seminars on the Carbon Tax Act, and tracks changes to tax laws to help clients stay ahead. She regularly lobbies and submits input on tax‑related legislative changes to the South African National Treasury. Prior to joining Webber Wentzel, she worked as a legal manager at SARS for eight and a half years, providing her with unique insight into the internal workings of the legal aspects within SARS. She has also been named by Who's Who Legal 2024 as a leading practitioner in Mining.

Nirvasha holds a Certificate in Mining Tax from the University of the Witwatersrand (2014), a Higher Diploma in Tax from Rand Afrikaans University (2008), and a B.Proc from the University of Natal (1998). She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants Carbon Tax Sub‑Committee.
