Monique Jefferson

Monique Jefferson is a Director at DLA Piper in Johannesburg, specialising in Employment Law. She advises multi‑national companies on all aspects of employment law, including section 197 transfers, retrenchments and restructurings, merger‑related employment advice, due diligence, unfair dismissal and discrimination claims, compliance with employment equity legislation, poor performance and incapacity, protected disclosures, sexual harassment, and the deeming provisions in relation to fixed‑term contracts and temporary employment service employees.

She regularly conducts workplace investigations into sexual harassment, racism, fraud, dishonesty, and misrepresentation for clients in the insurance, health, mining, engineering, and banking sectors. She also provides strategic legal counsel on employment law compliance and risk management across multiple industries. She is the author of the Employment Law Update column in De Rebus magazine and speaks at South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) events.

Monique holds an LL.B from Rhodes University (2009), where she volunteered at the Legal Aid Clinic, and a BA from the University of the Witwatersrand (2007). She is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a member of SASLAW and the Solicitors Regulation Authority as a registered foreign lawyer.
