Michael Gildenhuys

Michael Gildenhuys is an Associate in the Mergers and Acquisitions 1 team at Bowmans' Sandton office, forming part of the broader M&A practice. He has experience assisting clients with local and multinational private and public M&A transactions across a number of industries, including oil and gas, mining, food and beverages, manufacturing, transport and logistics, data centres and pharmaceuticals.

Notable transactions include advising The Coca-Cola Company on the ongoing sale of a 75% controlling interest in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa to Coca-Cola HBC, valuing 100% of the business at an equity value of USD 3.4 billion; assisting Traxtion Sheltam on its capital raise with Harith and Stanlib to fund its R3.4 billion rolling stock investment programme; advising AutoX on its acquisition of the Zimco Group; acting for AECI on the divestment of its Food & Beverage business; and advising Landis+Gyr on the divestment of its EMEA business to AURELIUS.

In addition to transactional work, he assists private companies with corporate governance advice, internal restructuring transactions, the implementation of long-term management incentive schemes, and upstream and downstream private equity fund assistance. He has also advised lenders including Investec and RMB on private equity fund due diligence reviews.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in English and Economics) and a Bachelor of Law (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town. He is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a member of the Legal Practice Council.
