Matthew Morrison

Matthew Morrison is an Executive in the Corporate Commercial practice at ENS, practicing in the firm's Mergers and Acquisitions group. He is a company and commercial lawyer specialising in listed and unlisted M&A, particularly in the financial services sector (with a focus on banking and insurance), as well as private equity transactions, cross-border transactions, and financial sector regulation. He is dual-qualified in South Africa and England and Wales.

Mr. Morrison has acted for various listed companies, including retail and investment banks, insurance companies, FMCG and pharmaceutical companies, government institutions, and private companies and high-net-worth individuals. His recent work includes advising a large Pan-African banking group on the disposal of its investment management and investment platform businesses in separate transactions, advising on the implementation of their significant B-BBEE transaction, and acting for a large English and South African listed banking group on the unbundling of its asset management business. He also provides coverage opinions to underwriters and policyholders and has experience in warranty and indemnity insurance in the South African M&A market.

Matthew holds a BBusSc (Hons) and an LLB from the University of Cape Town, and Advanced Certificates in Company Law I and II from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa and as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He is a co-author of the South African chapter in various editions of the International Comparative Legal Guide's Mergers and Acquisitions publication and the Chambers M&A Guide for South Africa.

He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law (2017-2023), by The Legal 500 EMEA in Commercial, Corporate and M&A, and by IFLR1000 as Highly Regarded in M&A.
