Luke von der Heyde

Luke von der Heyde is an Executive in the Project Development and Project Finance practice, specialising in infrastructure law. He advises large corporate entities, international developers and investors, independent power producers (IPPs), and financial institutions (commercial lenders and DFIs) on projects developed, promoted, or funded both in South Africa and internationally.

His experience includes conceptual project development structuring, risk identification and allocation, reviewing and negotiating project agreements (including concessions, joint development agreements, joint operating agreements, and offtake agreements), and drafting and negotiating project finance lending agreements (clubs, syndications, sub‑participations) including project security and sponsor support. He also provides ancillary advisory services on suspensive conditions, closing, and financeable risk allocations, reviews legal opinions, prepares corporate authorisations, issues lender legal opinions, and implements and perfects project finance security packages.

He holds a BA (Hons) and LLB from the University of KwaZulu‑Natal, and an LLM from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
