Lerato Nkanza

Lerato Nkanza is a Partner based in Johannesburg. Her primary practice area is Capital Markets Law, and she specialises in Debt Capital Markets.

She has experience advising financial institutions, multilateral development banks, sovereign issuers, state-owned companies, municipalities and corporates on a range of domestic and cross-border capital markets transactions and the regulatory environment applicable to debt capital markets.

She regularly advises banks and investors on capital-qualifying and Flac-qualifying securities and loans, and also has experience in the local aspects of offerings undertaken in accordance with Reg S and Rule 144A.

Her cross-border experience covers jurisdictions in Sub-Saharan Africa, including across Southern Africa (Botswana, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia), East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda) and West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria).

She was nominated for the prestigious "Hall of Fame Woman Deal Maker of the Year – 2024" award. She holds an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand (2008) and a B.Com in Finance Management from the University of the Witwatersrand (2008). She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
