Kayla Abrahams

Kayla Abrahams is a Senior Associate in the Cape Town office and a member of the firm's Competition Law practice. She has been involved in various competition and merger control matters across a broad range of business sectors and industries, with experience in both South African merger control and other African jurisdictions including COMESA, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, and WAEMU.

Ms. Abrahams has worked on a number of complex and multi-jurisdictional mergers, including advising Hitachi Rail on its proposed acquisition of Thales' Ground Transportation Systems Business (enterprise value of EUR 66 billion), Vitol Group on its acquisition of Vivo Energy, Elliott Investment Management on the joint acquisition of Citrix and TIBCO, and Volkswagen on competition approvals for the acquisition of joint control of Europcar Mobility Group. She has also advised Thermo Fisher Scientific, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and Robert Bosch GmbH on various African competition matters.

Kayla holds a BCom LLB from the University of Cape Town. She has been ranked by Legal 500 as a Leading Associate for Competition in South Africa (2026) and previously as a Rising Star (2024), and was shortlisted for the African Legal Awards Private Practice Most Promising Newcomer Award (2022).
