Richard Bhagwan-Bryce

Richard Bhagwan-Bryce is a Partner in the Competition practice at Bowmans' Cape Town office, specialising in Competition Law. He advises clients on merger control, market conduct and behavioural investigations, and competition compliance across multiple African jurisdictions, including South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, COMESA, and other regional bodies.

He has advised TotalEnergies on its acquisition of sole control of Total Eren Holding, the merging parties on the Bunge Global S.A. and Viterra Limited merger, Groupe Canal+ S.A. on its acquisition involving MultiChoice Group Limited, and Anheuser Busch InBev in appeal proceedings against the Tanzanian Fair Competition Commission. He has also represented Rand-Air in an investigation into the Contractors Plant Hire Association, beIN Media Group in a COMESA investigation, and Eskom in an abuse of dominance investigation. His experience spans the aviation, chemicals, telecoms, transportation, tobacco, food and beverage, advertising, IT services, mining and agriculture industries. He has secondments to Bowmans' offices in Kenya and Tanzania, and spent nine months in London on a visiting lawyers' programme.

He holds a BCom, LL.B, and LL.M from the University of Cape Town, is a Mandela Rhodes Scholar and an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation fellow. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and was recognised as a Rising Star by Legal 500 (2021).
