Jo-Paula Roman

Jo-Paula Roman is an Executive at ENS in the Tax practice. Her practice focuses on Tax Law, specialising in domestic and international corporate income tax matters, with a particular interest in value-added tax (VAT).

She has acted for a variety of clients in the retail, banking and financial services industries, as well as for clients providing various platform services.

Jo-Paula's experience includes advising on the tax aspects of corporate restructuring, such as unbundling and M&A transactions, as well as on the VAT aspects of cross-border supplies and financial services. She also assists clients with their tax planning matters, and has particular experience in the establishment of trusts with a view to obtaining tax exemption status under the public benefit organisation dispensation of the South African Income Tax Act, 1962.

In addition, her experience includes advising on exchange control and the application thereof to transactions involving cryptoassets. She holds an LLB from Stellenbosch University and an LLM in Tax Law from the University of Cape Town, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
