Gordon Rushton

Gordon Rushton is a Senior Consultant in the Dispute Resolution Department at Bowmans in the Cape Town office, specialising in Dispute Resolution. He focuses on commercial litigation, arbitration, insurance, construction and municipal law, with particular expertise in forensic investigations.

Gordon has conducted a forensic investigation into the shooting of the Guguletu Seven and subsequently assisted investigators of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He represented most of the former directors of Leisurenet Limited in legal proceedings flowing from the liquidation of the company, and has acted for the City of Cape Town on issues arising from the construction of the Cape Town Stadium. He represented the Law Society of South Africa in its application to the Constitutional Court challenging amendments to the Road Accident Fund, and has also litigated in the High Court in London, at the London Court of International Arbitration, and in Italy.

Gordon holds a B.A. and an LL.B. from the University of Cape Town.

He was named Best Lawyers "Lawyer of the Year" for Arbitration and Mediation in Cape Town (2021) and has been recognised by Best Lawyers in South Africa for Arbitration and Mediation since 2015. He was also named South Africa – Lawyer of the Year (Litigation and Dispute Resolution) by ACQ Law Awards (2014) and Corporate LiveWire (2014).
