Darren Band

Darren Band is an Executive at ENS in the Dispute Resolution practice. His practice focuses on Dispute Resolution, bringing over two decades of experience in high-value litigation and commercial dispute resolution.

He is highly regarded for his expertise in mining litigation, contract and corporate disputes, and regulatory and administrative law, with a particular emphasis on complex, precedent-setting matters spanning the mining and resources, real estate, hospitality, gaming, insurance and healthcare sectors.

Darren has acted as lead attorney in numerous high-profile cases before the High Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court of South Africa, as well as in private commercial arbitrations. His work is distinguished by his strong legal analysis, strategic planning and adept negotiation skills.

A significant portion of his practice has been dedicated to advising and representing clients in the South African mining sector, particularly in disputes concerning mineral rights under the South African mining legislation (MPRDA). He has successfully represented major mining houses in landmark cases involving disputes over competing mining and prospecting rights.

Darren also has significant experience advising clients in the gaming and hospitality sectors and was most recently recognised for his key role in the firm's involvement in a wide range of disputes in the life sciences sector.

He holds a BCom from the University of South Africa and an LLB from the University of Johannesburg, and is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. His expertise and leadership have been recognised by industry accolades, including being named a leading lawyer by Who's Who Legal (Mining – South Africa) for several consecutive years, and he was part of the ENS team awarded African Law Firm of the Year at the 2025 LMG Life Sciences Awards in London. He is recognised by The Legal 500 EMEA for Dispute Resolution in South Africa.
