Burton Phillips

Burton Phillips is a Partner at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg, specialising in competition law. He has advised on all competition law aspects of transactions, including due diligence reviews and protocols, and engagements with competition authorities in South Africa and other African jurisdictions. He has also advised on transactions involving regional competition authorities such as the COMESA Competition Commission and the Commission de la CEMAC.

He has been recognised as a leading individual by Best Lawyers (2022–2026) and as a “next generation partner” by Legal 500 (2020–2025).

Burton holds a Certificate in Competition Law from the University of the Witwatersrand (2014), an LLB from North‑West University (2009), and a B.Com (Economics and Law) (cum laude) from North‑West University (2007). He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
