Talita Laubscher

Talita Laubscher is a Partner at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in data protection law and employment law. She is a recognised expert in both fields, advising clients on the full spectrum of data protection matters, including compliance frameworks, data breaches, cross-border data transfers, privacy policies, and engagements with the Information Regulator. Her employment practice covers dismissals, employment contracts, unfair discrimination, restructuring, and the employment consequences of commercial transactions.

Talita has been at the forefront of data protection developments since the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) came into force, and has developed a POPIA toolkit for employers. She regularly advises clients on data breach notifications, the preparation of privacy policies and data processing agreements, and the registration of information officers. In the employment law domain, she has been involved in groundbreaking cases before the Labour Court and Labour Appeal Court, including on equal pay, transfer of employment, and retrenchment matters. She was intimately involved in the Nedlac processes during the COVID-19 pandemic, advising employers on compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Directives and the TERS benefit.

Talita holds an LL.B (cum laude) and a B. Iuris (cum laude) from the University of the Free State, and an LL.M from Emory University, USA. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and has acted as a judge in the Labour Court.

She has been ranked in Band 3 for Employment Law by Chambers Global (2024–2026) and has been recognised by Who's Who Legal. She is co-author of Sibergramme's Contracts of Employment and contributes two chapters to Employment Equity Law, an academic textbook updated annually. She has published extensively and is a keen researcher.
