Stephen Meltzer

Stephen Meltzer is an Executive Consultant at Webber Wentzel in Johannesburg, with over 25 years of experience (admitted 1978) advising on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate transactions, and international trade law. He has been involved in numerous acquisitions, mergers, and corporate transactions, with considerable expertise in the regulatory environment governing them, including the Takeover Regulation Panel and JSE Listing Requirements.

In the field of international trade, he represents South African Customs Union industries, governments, and exporters, focusing on trade remedies, customs classification, import/export regulation, bilateral, multilateral, and regional international agreements, and World Trade Organisation (WTO) law. He has been consistently ranked as a leading individual by Best Lawyers (2008–2026) and ranked by Chambers Global (2010–2021), Legal 500 (2011–2013), IFLR1000 (2010), and Who's Who Legal (2012–2017) for Trade & Customs.

Stephen holds an LL.M from the University of London (1979), an LL.B (1978), and a BA (1975) from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a Trustee of Bishop D.M. Tutu's Nobel Peace Prize Trust.
