Siphesihle Ngubane

Siphesihle Ngubane is a Partner in the Shipping & Logistics department at Shepstone & Wylie in Durban, specialising in customs and excise law, trade remedies, logistics, indirect tax, risk management, compliance and governance, consumer protection (labelling requirements), and counterfeit goods/trademarks (grey/parallel goods).

He advises clients at all levels of the supply chain, including importers, exporters, clearing agents, and manufacturers. He deals with all customs, excise, trade, and logistics‑related matters, including tariff (his specialist area), origin, valuation, compliance audits, internal administrative appeals, alternative dispute resolution, and drafting of court pleadings. He has a keen interest in risk management, compliance and governance, and trade‑related consumer protection (NCC and SAPS matters).

Before joining the firm, he spent several years at the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in the Tariff Head Office Division and was a member of the Customs National Appeal Committee.

Siphesihle holds an LLB from the University of KwaZulu‑Natal (UKZN) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Risk Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA). He is an associated member of the Maritime Lawyers Association (MLA) and the South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT), and holds the Master Customs & Trade Practitioner designation.
