Mpumelelo Nxumalo

Mpumelelo Nxumalo is a Partner specialising in Employment Law, labour law, mine health and occupational safety law, as well as litigation and dispute resolution. He advises and represents clients across a variety of sectors, including banking, manufacturing, medical, mining, petroleum, logistics, and telecommunications.

He has been involved in proceedings before various courts, including the Constitutional Court, as well as employment and labour law tribunals, including the International Labour Organisation (ILO). He has advised and represented on landmark matters, including successfully defending a challenge to the constitutionality of sections 23(1)(d) and 189(1) of the Labour Relations Act, which received the Employment Team of the Year Award at the African Legal Awards in 2020. He also advised in successfully obtaining a declaration that the work done by team leaders and mud‑guards in tailings dams is an essential service – a first for the tailings and mining industry. He was an Acting Judge of the Labour Court of South Africa in 2024.
