Luway Mongie

Luway Mongie is a Partner in the Employment and Benefits Practice and a member of the Major Incidents and Corporate Investigations Practice at Bowmans in Johannesburg, specialising in employment law and corporate investigations. He advises clients on a wide range of investigations and employment-related matters, with a primary focus on conducting investigations into whistleblowing complaints, including allegations of fraud, corruption, irregular procurement practices, sexual harassment, racism, workplace assault, and employee dereliction of duties.

Luway has conducted investigations into serious allegations of fraud and irregular conduct by senior executives in public entities, including matters that had been subject to state investigations for over five years; conducted complex, highly sensitive investigations involving procurement irregularities and corruption that were reported in the media; conducted investigations into the culture of a global corporate client with a specific focus on allegations of racism and discrimination; and conducted cross‑border investigations into allegations against executives and employees across various jurisdictions. He has represented clients in internal disciplinary proceedings and at subsequent tribunals, including the Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court, and Constitutional Court. He has also advised and assisted a global healthcare and pharmaceutical client on an internal restructuring mandate and represented a range of clients from JSE‑listed companies to government and state‑owned entities in court litigation. He also advised and assisted pro bono clients in the Constitutional Court in relation to serious allegations of racism in matters reported in the media.

Luway holds a BCom (Economics and Law) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Cape Town. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a member of the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW). He has presented to the Gauteng chapter of SASLAW on investigations in the workplace and has also presented at its annual national conference.
