Lawrence Helman

Lawrence Helman is an Executive in the Corporate Commercial practice at ENS, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, company regulatory and strategic advisory, and crisis management. He advises a diverse client base, including multi‑nationals investing into South Africa and other parts of Africa, South African listed companies, family offices, family businesses, and start‑ups.

Lawrence has a broad practice across a range of industries, with deep expertise in inbound investment, franchising, and licensing. Two transactions on which he has advised were recently nominated for South African Dealmaker of the Year. He also co‑edits the American Bar Association publication on Franchising in South Africa and was recognised as leading Franchise Lawyer in the Corporate LiveWire Legal Awards.

Lawrence holds a BA, an LL.B, and a Higher Diploma in Company Law from the University of Cape Town. He is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

He has been consistently recognised as a leading lawyer by Best Lawyers, including as Corporate Lawyer of the Year (South Africa), and by Who's Who Legal. He has served as a councillor of the Cape Law Society, a member of the Council's Finance Committee, and a member of the Attorneys Fidelity Fund Board of Control.
