Kara van de Pol

Kara van de Pol is a Consultant in the Cape Town office, practicing in the firm's Compliance Law and investigations practice. A litigator-turned-investigator, she has a broad background spanning commercial disputes and insolvency, with a particular focus on forensic investigation, anti-bribery and corruption compliance, and regulatory due diligence.

Ms. van de Pol has conducted numerous compliance and anti-corruption due diligence engagements for listed companies and multinationals across industries including property development, petroleum products, financial services, and fast-moving consumer goods. She advises on the application of foreign legislation such as the FCPA and UK Bribery Act, assesses compliance with local legislation including the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, and conducts business intelligence screening to identify politically exposed persons and reputational risks. She has been a key member of a successful, long-running investigation for a global mining group and has led major investigations into senior executives at a state-owned entity.

Kara holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand and an LLB from the University of South Africa. She has completed short courses in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination, Regulatory Compliance, Privacy Law and Data Protection, Anti-Corruption and Compliance, FinTech Law and Policy, and Python programming. She is an admitted attorney of the Legal Practice Council.
