Juliette de Hutton

Juliette de Hutton is Head of Restructuring in the Cape Town office, practicing in Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law. With 20 years' experience, she has advised on some of South Africa's most challenging insolvency and business rescue cases in the aviation, retail, and commercial property sectors, acting for liquidators, business rescue practitioners, creditors, and boards of companies experiencing or anticipating financial distress.

Ms. de Hutton has acted for various litigation claimants against Steinhoff International Holdings, acted for British Airways PLC in the liquidation of Comair Limited, and served as independent chairperson of creditors' committees in the business rescue proceedings of Edcon Limited and South African Airways SOC Limited. She regularly acts for business rescue practitioners, including those appointed in the Bestinver group of companies, and for foreign creditors such as Sojitz Corporation (listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange) in business rescue proceedings.

Juliette holds an LLB, an LLM, and a BA from the University of Cape Town, and completed the Advanced Short Course in Business Rescue Practice at UNISA. She is a qualified solicitor admitted in the High Court of England and Wales and a member of SARIPA. She has been ranked by Chambers Global in Band 2 for Restructuring/Insolvency in South Africa (2026) and rated by IFLR1000 as a Highly Regarded lawyer for Restructuring and Insolvency (2024-2025).
