Joe da Silva

Joe da Silva is an Executive in the Dispute Resolution Department and a member of the Corporate Investigations Practice at Bowmans, based in Johannesburg, with more than 23 years' experience in the forensic investigation environment, particularly fraud, theft, corruption and compliance, in both the private and public sectors.

He has extensive experience conducting investigations for government departments, municipalities, parastatals and public entities, including matters involving contraventions of the Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations, the Municipal Finance Management Act, and the Prevention and Combatting of Corrupt Activities Act. Notable assignments include investigations into procurement irregularities for municipal entities in Gauteng and Eastern Cape, a Northern Cape provincial department, a Gauteng provincial department, and numerous schools. He has also managed large-scale compliance assignments under the UK Bribery Act and FCPA for multinational clients across multiple African countries. He has travelled extensively across Africa, conducting assignments in more than 15 countries including South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Angola, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.

Joe holds BCompt and BCompt Hons degrees from the University of South Africa and is an affiliate member of the South African Chapter of the ACFE. He articled with PwC, helped establish KPMG's first forensic investigative unit in South Africa, and was a director and shareholder at Gobodo Forensics, the first South African majority black-owned forensic accounting firm.

He is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers Global for Corporate Investigations in South Africa (2026), with clients describing him as "very good to work with", "a diligent lawyer", and possessing "great leadership skills and the ability to communicate".
