Freek van Rooyen

Freek van Rooyen is a Partner at Shepstone & Wylie's Johannesburg office, specialising in customs and excise law and international trade remedy work. He is one of the leading attorneys in South Africa in this field and has been recognised as an indirect tax specialist in the annual Chambers Global rankings.

With over 25 years of experience, he advises clients at all levels of the supply chain, including importers, exporters, clearing agents, and manufacturers. He handles tariff applications, transaction value applications, origin applications, compliance disputes, detailed submissions to SARS, and when required, High Court litigation. He has extensive experience advising clients in the chemical, motor component, electronic, liquor, and petroleum industries.

Freek holds a BJuris from the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE), an LLB from the University of South Africa (UNISA), and a Higher Diploma in Import and Export Law from North‑West University (NWU).
