Brian Malcomess

Brian Malcomess is a Partner at DLA Piper in Johannesburg, specialising in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate finance, and leveraged debt and structured finance transactions. He advises senior, junior, and mezzanine lenders, preference share funders, and borrowers on all aspects of debt financing, including funding structures, risk allocation, and security arrangements.

He has advised Capital Apartments and Hotel Group on the internal corporate restructure of its group and the sale of 49.9% of the issued shares in its property holding company to the Government Employees Pension Fund, represented by the Public Investment Corporation, and Tata International on its joint venture with Mercuria Energy Group to expand global multi‑commodity trading. He is a dual‑qualified chartered accountant and attorney, providing clients with a unique combination of legal and financial expertise.

Brian holds a BAcc and LL.B from the University of Stellenbosch, a BCom (Hons) from the University of Johannesburg, and is a Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)). He is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and is recommended by Legal500 (2023‑2026) for Commercial, Corporate and M&A.
