Nerisha Besesar

Nerisha Besesar is a Partner and Notary Public in the litigation department at Shepstone & Wylie's Durban office, with over 13 years of experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. She specialises in banking matters, debt recovery, tax litigation, property issues (including evictions), as well as anti‑competitive behaviour, consumer protection, and educational institution matters.

She was part of the legal team that successfully pursued the landmark appeal Spring Forest Trading CC v Wilberry (Pty) Ltd t/a Ecowash and another 2015 (2) SA 118 (SCA), which dealt with the validity of cancellation and variation of contracts by e‑signatures. The team was awarded Litigation Team of the Year at the African Legal Awards in 2016 for their work on this matter.

She is an internationally accredited mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and serves on the Exco of the KwaZulu‑Natal Society of Mediators. She has assisted clients ranging from body corporates to blue‑chip companies throughout the mediation process, with a particular interest in commercial and property‑related disputes. She also lectures on an ad hoc basis at the School for Legal Practice, KwaZulu‑Natal, and sits as a Small Claims Court Commissioner.

Nerisha holds an LLB from the University of Cape Town (UCT), an Advanced Short Course on Business Rescue from UNISA, and is a Notary Public.
