Jackie Pennington

Jackie Pennington is a Director at DLA Piper in Johannesburg, specialising in Banking and Finance Law. She advises on various types of local and cross‑border financing transactions, including secured lending, acquisition and asset financing, leveraged financing, preference share funding, syndicated lending, corporate financing and restructuring, acting for both lenders and borrowers.

She has advised the Banking Association of South Africa and six South African banks in relation to the emergency COVID‑19 funding and guarantee made available by the South African Reserve Bank for small businesses, and advised the lender in relation to ZAR 310 million preference share funding made available to a 100% black‑owned consortium in the renewable energy sector for the purposes of refinancing debt and restructuring shareholding arrangements. She has been consistently recognised by Chambers Global (2017‑2026) in Band 2 for Banking & Finance and by Best Lawyers (2024‑2026) for Banking and Finance law and Litigation, and was named Lawyer of the Year for Banking & Finance.

She holds a BA and LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand. She was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 1999.
