David Yuill

David Yuill is a Partner in the Johannesburg office, practicing in the firm's Corporate Law and Capital Markets group. He specialises in equity capital markets, corporate finance, M&A, and general securities and corporate law, with considerable experience acting as both company and bookrunners' counsel on significant ECM transactions including IPOs, inward listings, rights offers, accelerated bookbuilds, and other equity placings. He also advises on black economic empowerment transactions.

Mr. Yuill has advised on numerous landmark transactions, including serving as lead counsel to Pick n Pay Stores Limited and its subsidiary Boxer Group on Pick n Pay's ZAR 4.5 billion rights offer and the IPO of Boxer, acting for underwriters on the IPOs of Optasia and Cell C Limited, and advising Rand Merchant Holdings on its ZAR 130 billion unbundling of its shareholding in FirstRand. He also acted for joint global co-ordinators on the ZAR 78 billion listing of Steinhoff Africa Retail, advised Dis-Chem Pharmacies on its IPO, and acted for Royal Bafokeng Platinum on multiple capital raisings including rights offers and convertible bond offerings totaling over ZAR 1.86 billion. He has extensive experience advising on accelerated bookbuilds for clients including Woolworths Holdings, Spar Group, Clicks Group, and The Foschini Group.

David holds a BA and LLB from Stellenbosch University, a BCL from the University of Oxford, and a Master's in Liberal Arts from Harvard. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

He is individually ranked as Band 1 by Chambers and Partners for Capital Markets (Equity) for 2025, with clients describing him as having "very strong technical expertise with commercial acumen," and is rated as a Highly Regarded lawyer by IFLR1000 for Capital Markets: Equity (2024-2025).
