Dale Hutchison

Dale Hutchison is Head of the Internal Research Unit at ENS, specialising in corporate law and contract law. He provides professional support to all business areas in the firm.

He is a professor of private law at the University of Cape Town, where he has taught since 1983, and has served as deputy dean, acting dean, and head of the department of private law. He has also practised as an advocate at the Cape Bar. His teaching expertise includes general principles of contract, cession, advanced contract, delict, succession, trusts, and criminal law. He is the general editor of the 8th edition of Wille's Principles of South African Law, a standard textbook on South African private law, and is the author of Damages for Non-Fraudulent Misrepresentation in English and South African Law.

Dale holds a BCom and an LL.B (magna cum laude) from the University of Cape Town, and a PhD from Cambridge University. He has served on the editorial boards of Acta Juridica and Responsa Meridiana, and has published numerous articles in leading law journals.
