Ashford Nyatsumba

Ashford Nyatsumba is a Partner in the Johannesburg office, specialising in Corporate Law. He focuses on investment funds, advising on both regulated and unregulated investment fund transactions across Africa, with particular expertise in the formation and structuring of alternative investment funds.

Ashford has advised local and international private equity and venture capital firms, development finance institutions, institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals on raising and deploying capital into Africa-focused funds. He also assists clients with regulatory and transactional matters across the continent, including advising on establishing operations, incorporating subsidiaries and pursuing acquisitions in various African jurisdictions.

Ashford holds an LL.B. from the University of the Witwatersrand (2009) and is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.

He is ranked by Chambers Global (2025–2026), recognised by Best Lawyers (2025–2026) as a leading individual, and listed as a next generation partner by The Legal 500 (2024–2025). He was also a winner in the Professional Services category at the 2019 Rising Star Awards.
