Allen Leuta is a Partner and Head of the Banking and Finance Department in the Johannesburg office, and co-heads the Infrastructure Sector Group. He is a member of the Projects, Energy and Infrastructure Practice, with extensive experience in project development and financing transactions across Africa, acting for finance parties (including development finance institutions and export credit agencies) and developers.

Mr. Leuta has advised on numerous landmark project finance transactions, including the first project to achieve financial close under South Africa's Battery Energy Storage IPP Procurement Programme (the 103 MW/412 MWh Mogobe BESS facility developed by Scatec), the first project to reach financial close under the REIPPPP Round 5 (the Grootfontein solar projects), the 216 MW Hydra Storage Project with a 500 MWh battery storage system developed by TotalEnergies, and the 140 MW De Aar 2 South Wind Farm featuring an innovative substation to unlock grid capacity. He has also advised the International Finance Corporation on financing facilities in Ethiopia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Burundi, the SAHEL region, Botswana, and Kenya, and advised Standard Bank and other leading financial institutions on renewable energy, battery storage, and corporate PPA transactions across Africa.

Allen holds an LLM from Harvard Law School, and an LLB and BA (both with distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and contributed to the PPA handbook "Understanding Power Purchase Agreements" published in 2014 through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Commercial Law Development Program.
