Jennifer Finnigan

Jennifer Finnigan is a Partner and Head of the Competition Law Department at Shepstone & Wylie, based in Durban. She is a commercial, compliance, and competition lawyer who has assisted local and multinational clients with complaint investigations by the Competition authorities, regularly deals with merger filings, and advises on antitrust compliance issues.

She has extensive specialist experience in the ports sector, logistics (road, rail, and warehousing agreements), automotive, and sugar industries, and has dealt extensively with terminal operator licences, leases, concessions, and tenders in the port space locally and in other African ports. She frequently acts for counterparties in port‑related agreements with Transnet National Ports Authority and advises clients on the National Ports Act, including participation in revisions of proposed amendments. She focuses on plain English drafting and creating user‑friendly, practical contracts.

Jennifer also has a strong interest in financial intelligence and data privacy compliance law, having developed compliance documents, policies, and training under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act and the Protection of Personal Information Act, and has assisted clients with investigations by the Financial Intelligence Centre.

She is an internationally accredited mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), with a particular interest in competition, compliance, sugar, shipping, and logistics disputes.

Jennifer holds a BA from Rhodes University and an LLB from the University of KwaZulu‑Natal (UKZN).
