Bright Tibane

Bright Tibane is a Partner in the Johannesburg office, practicing in the firm's Fintech Law and Financial Services Regulatory practice. He specializes in financial sector regulation, including asset management, securities, fund management, banking, domestic and international payment services, as well as emerging areas such as fintech, regulated lending, exchange control, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing compliance.

Mr. Tibane advises financial service providers, capital market participants, fund managers, payment service providers, banks, and fintech innovators on compliance, registration, licensing, authorizations, and regulatory exemptions. He has advised Capitec Bank on its acquisition of Mercantile Bank's business, Rand Merchant Bank on insurance policies as credit risk mitigation under Basel IV, Flutterwave on a merchant acquiring agreement, and Nomura on approval of their foreign funds for distribution in South Africa. He also provides strategic guidance on cross-border transactions and exchange control compliance.

Bright holds an LLB from the University of Limpopo and an LLM from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is recognized by Chambers Global for his work in Fintech Legal in South Africa, currently ranked in Band 2 (2026).
