Asmita Thakor

Asmita Thakor is a Partner in the Johannesburg office, specialising in Human Rights Law. She has extensive experience in matters relating to administrative law, constitutional law, land reform, employment equity and labour law, as well as delictual claims and local government matters.

Asmita has run several ground-breaking cases relating to women's and children's rights and the rule of law, and has advised and represented numerous communities on land issues. She has also litigated extensively against the State. Prior to joining Webber Wentzel, she worked at the Legal Resources Centre, served as an elected councillor in local government, and practised as an advocate at the Johannesburg Bar. She has also acted as a pro bono lawyer for the Wits Law Clinic and served as a non-executive director of the Rural Housing Land Fund.

Asmita holds an LL.B. (1990) and a B.A. (1987) from the University of the Witwatersrand, and has completed advanced certificates in Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, and Prospecting and Mining Law. She is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
